The companies say their union creates the world’s largest green cleaning company.
Green cleaning company Method has found a new home: European manufacturer Ecover has purchased the home-care products maker for an undisclosed sum from San Francisco Equity Partners.
“This transition marks a new chapter in the evolution of our business,” said Method co-founder Eric Ryan in a statement released on Tuesday.
The new union would forge the world’s largest green cleaning company, with a combined $200 million annual revenue, reports by The Financial Times. The outlet also reports that while sharing the same green vision, the two companies will continue to run as separate brands.
Currently more than 40,000 retailers throughout the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and France carry Method products, which range from disinfecting wipes to laundry detergent.
Ecover operates in the same environmentally friendly vein, with two manufacturing facilities in Belgium and France that churn out renewable plant-based cleaning products. The company sells 35 different products in 40 countries, according to the U.K.’s The Grocer.
“The marriage of our two brands makes perfect sense, as we are both companies rooted in a deep heritage of sustainability, innovation, and making people’s lives healthier and happier,” said Method CEO Drew Fraser in a statement.
Kevin Cunningham, a surfer and founder of Spirare Surfboards, was troubled by the rising amount of trash and debris washing up on the beaches he loves. He was inspired to clean up the oceans, and turn the trash into something his passion, what he calls “art that is designed to get wet”, thus was born Spirare Sustainable Surf Craft. Cunningham began to craft surfboards made from the trash polluting the ocean Plastic bags are woven into cloth, bottles are cut up and turned into fins, and soon a pile of garbage is turned into a beautiful and sturdy board. His mission to collect debris from the ocean, clean it up, and bring it back out to the ocean as a surfboard was funded on KickStarter and the surfboards will be featured in galleries around the country as well as sold as custom orders. Cunningham has taken on the challenge of cleaning up the ocean in style.

Crowdsourcing has been used to create an encyclopedia more accurate than the Encyclopedia Brittanicca, Wikipedia, help companies create advertisements, and grant the wishes of a 15-year-old with a terminal illness. Now, Iceland is using crowdsourcing to draft a new constitution. The constitutional council made a draft of the document open to the public and citizens are free to leave suggestions for amendments via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr. Recommendations must be approved by local staff before being passed on to the council and posted for discussion. Once the council approves suggestions, they are added to the draft of the document. Kudos to Iceland for taking democracy to the next level by not just having citizens vote on whether or not they agree with a constitution, but actually play a part in creating it. I hope that this is the direction that countries begin to take moving forward. Imagine, what would you suggest if given the chance to truly make a difference in how your country operates? I’m sure that citizens of Iceland will also feel empowered, even if their suggestions are not taken or the constitution doesn’t look exactly as they imagined, because they played a crucial role in shaping their country. With new technologies, anyone and everyone can be a founding father.

San Francisco is planning to dump 27 million pounds of bleach, at a taxpayer bill of $14 million, into the city’s sewers and open water systems. Our client, Method started a petition to persuade the SF Public Utilities Commission to consider alternative solutions to this problem & need at least 1,500 signatures to make our voices heard.
